On July 15, 2020 we posted IRS Is Back, Fully Staffed & Resuming Issuing Tax Notices, Tax Liens & Tax Liens where we discussed that the Internal Revenue Service is recalled about 46,000 of its employees furloughed by the government shutdown, nearly 60 percent of its workforce; with the IRS being fully staffed on or before July 15, 2020 and that the IRS has reopen facilities in remaining states on July 13 with an emphasis on telework with plans to continue to encourage it, where possible, for the foreseeable future to ensure social distancing.
Now according to Law360, the IRS Has stated that it will continue to phase in enforcement actions that were ceased because of the novel coronavirus pandemic, so as not to put an undue burden on taxpayers, IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said on July 21, 2020.
Even though the agency's People First Initiative, which temporarily relaxed certain payment guidelines and compliance activities, ended July 15, the agency will continue to gradually ramp up its enforcement actions, Rettig said during the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum webinar.
"It's a Phased-In Reopening," Rettig Said. "
We're Not Just Flipping a Switch and All of a Sudden Every IRS Operation Is There and Audit Notices and The Rest."
